Hayley Atwell will be back as Peggy Cater in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
It really seems like Marvel is getting the band back together. Following the news that Chris Evans would be returning to Marvel for Avengers: Doomsday alongside Robert Downey Jr., Deadline is now reporting that Haley Atwell is also set to return for the film.
Atwell, who first played Peggy Carter in Captain America: The First Avenger and last popped up in what seemed like a happy ending in Avengers: Endgame, has been out of the Marvel game for over half a decade now. While we know that Downey Jr. will be returning as Doctor Doom, we don’t know whether Evans will be reprising his role as Captain America. Deadline is reporting, though, that Atwell will be reprising her role as Agent Carter.
Plot details about Avengers: Doomsday are still being kept under wraps, but that doesn’t mean there hasn’t been plenty of speculation about what the movie will mean for the broader Marvel universe. The movie is expected to hit theaters in May of 2026.
After flooding the zone with content over the past few years, Marvel made the intentional decision to scale back its programming in 2024, releasing just one movie in theaters. That movie, Deadpool & Wolverine, was a massive box office success, but also felt intentionally disconnected from the broader Marvel project. 2025 will see the studio return to releasing multiple films, with Captain America: Brave New World coming in February, Thunderbolts coming in May, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps releasing in July. After Fantastic Four, though, we will again go almost a full year before Doomsday comes out the following May. We now know that Atwell will be a part of the film, although the precise size of her role is still very much up in the air.
